Complex Installation Requirements
 
Most of our clients require setup operations beyond that which can be generated by a point-and-click Setup Wizard. RE Technologies supports the use of the following systems :
  • Databases
    Configure and initialize SQL, Oracle, or Access databases using ADO. DAO, ODBC, or vendor API's
  • . NET Framework
    Install .NET Framework for applications that require it
  • C#, C++, MFC
    Installs that require operations beyond the capabilities of InstallScript, in the form of custom dll's. One common feature that these dll's provide is a custom dialog box, with owner-drawn controls and complex functionality. Another feature is interaction with Windows API's that InstallScript cannot access, such as callback functions or independent process threads.
  • Windows Components
    Install or upgrade Windows System components, such as MDAC, DirectX, or ActiveX Controls.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader
    Installs that need to include Adobe Acrobat Reader, satisfying Adobe's licensing requirements. We incorporate Adobe's distributed installation program seamlessly into our own installations, and we ensure that the install does not overwrite a newer version.
  • Mid-Install Reboots
    Some components require a reboot in the middle of their install, with some install actions performed after the reboot. This is especially true of hardware device managers. We have extensive experience in developing setups that initiate a reboot and continue without intervention from the user.
